Please note that there are
hazards inherent in running and travel in mountain and wadi terrain.
Please read the following carefully;
Each team must be self-sufficient for
transport (4-wheel drive), food, water, plasters, sun cream and anything
else you can think of to finish the race. Please note that even at this
time of year it can be very hot and plenty of cold water should be
taken.
There will be white sign boards to mark the end of each stage.
Sometimes these get 'removed' or maybe fall over. If this is the case
then use the stage distances shown on a separate sheet to judge the
change over point. Team captains should show plenty of flexibility, with
the rules, in the case of extreme tiredness or injury.
To avoid too much congestion in the wadi it is preferable if the
slower teams set off initially and the faster teams later to try and
ensure everyone finishes round about the same time. In this way starting
times are staggered and this reduces traffic congestion and dust levels
through the wadi.
Make sure that you park well to the side of the road at the change
over points as there will be normal wadi traffic as well as race
traffic. This is very important so please be considerate. Please drive
slowly to reduce dust levels out of respect to local inhabitants. The
race is on their territory and any problems could result in the race
being cancelled in the future.
Once the change over has been made it is best for the team vehicle to
move onto the next check point as quickly as possible otherwise there is
a chance of being held up by other vehicles.
There are villages on the route and sometimes it is possible to
receive some unwelcome attention. Bear this in mind if a lady is running
one of these stages.
In the event that there is a heavy rain and some flooding in the wadi
each team should exercise caution and prudence. If there is water
flowing in the wadi do not attempt to drive , cycle or run through. Keep
the vehicle on the higher ground and wait for the water to subside.
A number of people have requested to participate in the event on
mountain bikes. This can present hazards on congested sections of the
wadi with parked cars runners and fast moving mountain bikes. The run
was primarily organised as a relay run for runners and priority must be
given to the runners. Mountain bikers must slow down or stop to avoid
runners as necessary.
The wadi can get very congested with runners vehicles and normal wadi
traffic. Please take the minimum number of vehicles possible per team -
preferably 1 vehicle and a maximum of 2. Surplus vehicles can be left at
the start of run or camp site.
Due care and diligence has been exercised in the planning and
organisation for the Wadi Bih Run. Please note that all individuals or
groups who participate in the event do so of their own free will and
must recognize the hazards inherent in running and travel in mountain
and wadi terrain. The organizers will not be held responsible for any
injury, death or loss incurred under any circumstances.
