Wadi Bih Run Details - 10 February 2012

Important Information

To get to the start please follow the map to the Golden Tulip Hotel.
Please note that to get to the start you must cross through the border from UAE to Dibba in Oman. Currently no visa is required for this crossing but everyone in the car needs to show their passport. REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR PASSPORT.
It can be busy at the border post. Please be patient and show respect and ensure that you are not in possession of illegal substances.

The run will start from the beach in Dibba adjacent  the Golden Tulip Hotel and go up Wadi Khab Shamsi (following the old route in reverse) past the high point at the top of the mountain to a flat area where the runners will turn and then return to follow the same route back down to the finish at the start point.
This means the start and finish point of the run are at the same location. It is necessary for each team to limit themselves to one vehicle to avoid congestion problems in the wadi. Excess vehicles can be left parked at the beach.

The road through Wadi Khaab Shamsi on the Dibba side can in places be in bad condition where it has been washed out and has not been properly regraded. In places it is narrow (single track with limited passing places ) and rough. This can present problems with vehicles passing and also the changeover for runners.
In places the wadi is fairly narrow and is prone to traffic congestion. Also at some points there may be constrictions due to a rock fall. Thus it is important that proper care and attention is given to safety whilst driving and running in the wadi.
It is preferable that when running downhill one runner does all of the stages through the narrow section to avoid traffic bottlenecks.

To allow proper planning & to arrange the post run food teams need to register by 27.1.2012.
Traditionally teams have been encouraged to camp the night before the run and this is possible on the beach at Dibba. You will need to make all your own arrangements for camping including food, beverages, fuel and BBQ grill.

Bibs, batons, instructions etc. will be issued at registration which will be open from 6 pm to 9 pm on the evening of Thursday 9th February 2012 and from 6 am to 8 am on the morning of Friday 10th February 2012. Please download yourself the pdf files mentioned on the index page. The entry fee is 150 AED per person, thus for the team of five the entrance fee is 750 AED. Each team of five shall comprise of at least one female.
Solo runners can do the run for an entry fee of 150 AED per person.
Entry fees includes a lunch buffet and a T-shirt.

As the weather is fairly cool at this time of year, plus it will be cooler at higher altitudes, teams should take some warm, windproof & rainproof clothing as well as the usual equipment and clothing for hot weather.

Starting time from the beach in Dibba for teams will be between 6.00 a.m. and 8.15 a.m. Solo runners will start at 4.30 a.m.

The end of run function will take place at the Golden Tulip hotel which is directly adjacent the beach at the start and finish point for the run. The hotel will provide a lunch buffet with free water and soft drinks. Alcoholic beverages can be purchased directly from the hotel. Runners must not consume their own food & beverages inside the hotel premises.

The meal will be served at the hotel pool area between 1230 and 1630 hrs. Presentation will take place at 1330hrs

The check points are set at specific distances, however, where the road is rough the changeover should take place wherever it is safe to do so. Courtesy should be shown to other road users if there is congestion and traffic jams in the wadi .
Please note that there is local traffic going in both directions on the track and consideration should be given to other road users.

Remember safety is paramount.
In hazardous areas runners & cars must slow down to avoid accidents.
